Privacy Policy – Help Me Write AI
Effective date: March 17, 2026
Last updated: March 17, 2026
Help Me Write AI ("the Extension", "we", "our") is a Chrome browser extension that helps you rewrite, summarize, translate, and improve text using AI. This policy explains exactly what data we collect, why, how it is stored and shared, and your rights.
The Extension is published by WebcamEffects.app, Hallandale Bch, FL 33009.
1. Data We Collect
1.1 Text You Process
When you use the Extension to rewrite or transform text, the following is collected:
The text you select or type (your "input text")
The prompt, recipe, or custom context you choose to apply
The AI-generated response
This data is processed on our servers to produce the result. If you have history enabled, input text and responses are also stored locally in your browser's IndexedDB database.
1.2 User-Created Content
Prompts, custom contexts, and recipes you create are stored locally in your browser and, if you are signed in, synced to our servers so they are available across devices.
1.3 Account Information
If you sign in (via Google), we receive and store:
Your email address
A user identifier and profile avatar URL provided by Google
Your subscription tier (free, pro, or premium) and expiration date
An access token used to authenticate your requests
1.4 Usage Data
We log each AI processing request in our database with:
Your user ID
The AI model used
Number of input and output tokens consumed
Request status and timestamp
The domain of the page where the Extension was triggered
This data is used strictly for quota enforcement, billing, and abuse prevention. We do not store the raw text of your requests on our servers beyond what is necessary to route the request to the AI provider.
1.5 Technical Data
Standard web server logs may include your IP address and browser/OS information when your browser communicates with our servers. We do not use these for tracking.
1.6 Location
We do not collect, request, or infer your geographic location. No location data is gathered by the Extension.
2. How Your Data Is Used
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Input text + prompt | To generate an AI response via our backend and OpenRouter |
| Prompts, contexts, recipes | To save your personalizations locally and sync them across your devices |
| Email + account info | To identify your account, enforce usage limits, and manage your subscription |
| Usage logs (tokens, timestamps) | To calculate your daily/monthly quota, prevent abuse, debug issues |
| IP address (server logs) | Standard server operation; not used for profiling or advertising |
We do not use your text inputs to train AI models, and we do not sell your data to anyone.
3. How Data Is Stored
| Location | What is stored | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Your browser (IndexedDB) | Request history, prompts, contexts, recipes, settings | Until you clear it or delete the Extension |
| Your browser (chrome.storage.local) | Authenticated user info, access token, service token | Until you sign out or uninstall |
| Our server database | Prompts, contexts, recipes (for sync); request logs (for quota) | Until you delete your account; quota logs retained for 30–90 days |
| OpenRouter (AI provider) | Input text + prompt forwarded to generate a response | Per OpenRouter's own data retention policy |
All communication between the Extension and our servers, and between our servers and OpenRouter, occurs over HTTPS.
4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing
4.1 OpenRouter
Your input text and prompts are sent to OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) so that an AI model can generate a response. OpenRouter acts as an intermediary AI routing service. We do not control OpenRouter's data retention practices. You can review their privacy policy at openrouter.ai/privacy.
4.2 Authentication Provider (webcameffects.app)
Sign-in is handled through our authentication service at webcameffects.app. When you authenticate, your email address and account status are returned to the Extension. No browsing activity or text content is shared with this service.
4.3 No Other Third Parties
We do not use advertising networks, behavioral analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Mixpanel), or data brokers. No user data is sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data Sharing Summary
We share data only as follows:
OpenRouter: receives your input text and prompt to generate an AI response
Our own backend (writeai.webcameffects.app / webcameffects.app): handles authentication, quota tracking, and sync
No other recipients
6. Your Choices and Controls

Delete synced data: You can delete your account and all associated server-side data by contacting us at the address below.
Sign out: Signing out removes your access token and account info from local storage.
Cancel subscription: You can cancel your subscription at any time from within the Extension.
7. Data Retention
Local data (IndexedDB, chrome.storage): retained until you clear it or uninstall the Extension.
Synced content (prompts, contexts, recipes on our server): retained until you delete them or delete your account.

Account data: retained while your account exists. Deleted upon account deletion request.
8. Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data transmissions between the Extension and our servers or third-party AI providers are encrypted using TLS/SSL.
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
